This Fortnight at "Under the Shade of a Bonsai Tree"

Doing: Crazy times!
  • Was sick with bronchitis/asthma and had to have time off work,
  • Visits to and from friends and family,
  • Alex stuck a cashew nut up his nose - the GP couldn't get it out with tweezers so took him to the emergency ward - vacuum was not successful so they flushed it out. Little rascal behaved like an angel during the removal process!
  • Spent Friday morning blissed out at the Savoy Baths with swim, spa, facial and massage
  • Saw the Hard Ons - old school aussie punk rock. Was great to see them again.
  • Came down with tonsillitis. Horrible. So painful. So sick.
  • Had my uncle and aunt over for dinner who were visiting from England. It was the day I got sick though and had to go to bed shortly after they arrived. Missed dinner the following night at the revolving restaurant with them and my dad. I' been looking forward to seeing them for ages so extremely disappointed.
  • Started feeling better by Thursday which was a public holiday here. . Had a lovely sit on the beach whilst my husband took the boys for a walk in the morning and then in the evening we had pizza in the park (and I could even eat a couple of pieces).
  • Getting new jewellery ready - looks like I might start selling in a local shop.
Watching: The Antichrist - the new Lars von Trier film, which I found a bit too dark and creepy.

Listening to: The Hard Ons and the new Rammstein cd

Reading: The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave. I finished The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton which I really loved.

Cooking: lemon mascarpone icecream (again! - it's seriously good), pikelets, gingerbread men (and here are my little helpers with the finished product!)

Buying: I got the cute and kitschy trivet which I recently posted in a wishlist.

(I've been trying to get this entry finished for days! Phew. I'm actually feeling a bit dubious about continuing with the Blog Thang. Is it worth it? Is anyone reading it? I'd love more comments!)

Kiva Loans

I try and donate some of my profits from my little jewellery business to Kiva.
"Kiva lets you lend to a specific entrepreneur, empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty".
My jewellery making is really just a little hobby. It enables me to get a little creative and by selling my wares I get a bit of 'pocket money' and positive feedback. There are so many people out there in the world struggling to earn a living and I think Kiva is a fantastic organisation which helps these people set up a business to help themselves and families survive.
Today I donated money to Augustina.
"Augustina is thirty-nine years old. She is divorced and has given birth to one child. She lives with her son in a rented apartment in a town called Dormaa in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. Dormaa is a commercial and farming town. Augustina is a baker. She bakes bread and supplies to other retailers and beverage sellers in her community. She buys bags of flour and other ingredients from Kumasi. Augustina hawks to sell in her community to sell. She has been in business for four years and wants a loan to buy goods in bulk to expand her business."

Good luck Augustina!

Pay it forward

Recently I purchased a couple of gorgeous bugs as part of the lovely and generous Rebecca of Blinking Flights PIF (pay it forward) month. I'm continuing to spread the love now and will be listing some PIF items in my Etsy store. They will cost only 50c plus postage. I've just listed the first one - a lovely amethyst, white coral and green cinnabar necklace - normally sells for AUD$30. Go for it!

Oktoberfest! Ja wohl!

I created this treasury with a bit of a German Oktoberfest theme for a bit of fun last night!
Here it is.
